Sunday, 16 August 2009

A change of venue for Scout camp this year saw us on Dartmoor using the Navy Training Refuge that was formerly the Old Scout Hut at Guttor Tor. Activities included surfing, climbing, swimming and some failrly relaxed walking.

We were also fortunate enough to have be within touchin distance of a hot air balloon take was inflated and took off on the moors next to the entrance of the site.

Thanks to Deb Gatward, Robin Gatward, Dave Wingham, Dave Porter and Kev Fudge for leading and to Debbie Wingham and Jane Inglis for keeping us watered and fed.

Sea Scout International Centenary Jamboree 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 16 August 2009

A major success despite the constant rain and mud, a large group of our Scouts & Explorers had a fantastic time. Held at the National Water Sports Centre at  Holme Pierpoint, our young people had the opportunity to try kayaking and canoeing from 1star to extreme playboating, white water, powerboating, sailing, windsurfing, water ski-ing, rafting, coracle building and dragon boating plus loads of land based activities and a full evening entertainment programme.

Lead by Deb (also full time 1st Aider) , Robin (also full time kayak slalom instructor/safety), Lisha (also full time 1st Aider) & Jane (who fed and watered the group) and supported by Lucy, Bec & Alex W (younger leaders) our Scouts came away with lasting memories and even more friends to facebook and visit.

More information can still be found on www.seascout100.net

Due to the positive response from all quarters, the organisers have agreed to see if it is possible to run this camp every 5 years rather than wait for another 100
